Fin vs Zendesk AI agents: who should pick which?
Both are per-resolution AI support agents. The difference is where they sit and how the bill is built.
- Fin is Intercom's AI agent. It runs natively on Intercom's helpdesk or plugs into Salesforce, Zendesk, Freshdesk and HubSpot. Standalone pricing is $0.99 per outcome with a $49/month minimum and no seat costs.
- Zendesk AI agents live inside Zendesk Suite. You pay a per-agent subscription ($19–$115/agent/month paid yearly) plus $1.50–$2.00 per automated resolution beyond a small included allowance.
If you are not a Zendesk shop, Fin is the simpler buy. If you are, Zendesk AI agents keep everything in one admin console.

Same 1,000 conversations, two bills
Both vendors publish per-resolution rates, so we can model the usage side. Assume 1,000 conversations fully resolved by AI with no human escalation.
Fin (existing helpdesk plan):
- 1,000 outcomes × $0.99 per outcome = $990
- $49/month minimum is covered by usage (it includes 50 outcomes)
- No seat costs on this plan
Fin (with Intercom helpdesk): $990 plus $19 per seat per month (Fin pricing). Five seats adds $95, so $1,085.
Zendesk AI agents:
- Pay-as-you-go: 1,000 × $2.00 = $2,000
- Committed: 1,000 × $1.50 = $1,500
- Plus the base subscription. Suite Team at $55/agent/month paid yearly: five agents adds $275, so $1,775–$2,275 total.
- Plans include 5–10 automated resolutions per agent per month, which trims a small amount off the usage bill.
On published rates, Fin's per-outcome price is lower at this volume. Zendesk's committed rate narrows the gap but requires a commitment. Voice changes the math: Fin charges $1.99 per voice outcome via sales, while Zendesk voice AI requires Zendesk voice and some features need add-ons, so neither publishes a clean voice total.
Where is Fin stronger?
From the published facts:
- Lower per-resolution rate. $0.99 per outcome versus $1.50–$2.00 per automated resolution.
- No seat requirement on the standalone plan. Fin works with your existing helpdesk — Salesforce, Zendesk, Freshdesk or HubSpot — at $0.99 per outcome with a $49/month minimum, no seat costs or setup fees.
- Outcome definition favors the buyer. If Fin can't answer or the customer asks for a human, you pay nothing. Reopened conversations get the outcome refunded. You're charged at most once per conversation.
- Published compliance list. SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 42001, HIPAA and AIUC-1.
- Trial covers everything. 14 days, no credit card, all features and add-ons included.
- Cost controls. Spending limits and alerts are built in.
Where is Zendesk AI agents stronger?
From the published facts:
- Bundled allowance. Every Suite and Support plan includes AI agents with 5–10 automated resolutions per agent per month (up to 10,000 per year), so light automation can cost nothing extra.
- Language coverage. 80 languages at native fluency, switching automatically based on customer input. Fin does not publish a language count.
- Channel breadth including in-app. Messaging, email, voice, web, mobile and social from one platform.
- One vendor, one admin. AI agents, ticketing, knowledge base, routing and telephony all sit inside Zendesk Suite, which matters if your team already lives there.
- Committed-rate discount. $1.50 per resolution with a commitment versus $2.00 pay-as-you-go rewards predictable volume.
Pick Fin if / Pick Zendesk AI agents if
Pick Fin if:
- You want outcome-based pricing without replacing your current helpdesk.
- You run on Intercom, Salesforce, Zendesk, Freshdesk or HubSpot.
- You want a published compliance list that includes HIPAA and ISO 42001.
- You want to try everything free for 14 days with no credit card.
Pick Zendesk AI agents if:
- Your team already works in Zendesk Suite, or you're standardizing on it.
- You need 80-language support with automatic switching.
- You want in-app messaging alongside chat, email, voice and social.
- Your automation volume is light enough to fit inside the included per-agent resolution allowance.
Skip both and keep looking if you need a flat monthly rate regardless of resolution volume, or a published high-volume voice price — Fin's voice rate requires a sales call and Zendesk voice AI needs Zendesk voice plus add-ons.
