Smith.ai AI Receptionist pricing plans
Smith.ai bills per call, month-to-month, with no contract. There are three plans. Prices checked 28 October 2026.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/mo | 25 calls/mo ($3.00/call after that), Quality Studio, 24/7 AI answering, recording and transcription, lead qualification, AI Scheduling (Calendly), native integrations (Clio, Zapier) |
| Pro | $150/mo | $2.00/call (~2-3 calls/day), everything in Free plus dedicated onboarding setup, live phone/email/chat support, custom SMS branding |
| Enterprise | $500/mo | $1.67/call (~10 calls/day), full-service setup, custom AI prompting, unlimited custom integrations, multi-location support, dedicated success manager |
A few things stand out in this structure:
- Every plan includes the full feature set. The free plan is not a stripped-down trial.
- The per-call rate drops as you move up: $3.00 on Free overages, $2.00 on Pro, $1.67 on Enterprise.
- Volume discounts apply at higher tiers, per Smith.ai.
- Every plan handles calls in English and Spanish.
One detail worth knowing: every answered call counts toward your quota by default. Known spam calls are filtered before answering and do not count. For spam that gets through, you can remove up to 10% of answered calls from the bill per cycle.
What does one month cost at three call volumes?
We modelled three volumes using Smith.ai's published rates. Assumptions: every call is answered by the AI, no live-agent add-ons, and calls beyond a plan's included count bill at the same per-call rate (Smith.ai does not publish a separate overage rate for Pro or Enterprise).
100 calls/month — Pro: $200
- $150 base covers ~75 calls at $2.00/call
- Remaining 25 calls × $2.00 = $50
- Total: $150 + $50 = $200
300 calls/month — Enterprise: $500
- $500 base covers ~300 calls at $1.67/call
- Total: $500 (no overage)
At this volume Pro would cost $150 + (225 × $2.00) = $600, so Enterprise is cheaper.
600 calls/month — Enterprise: ~$1,001
- $500 base covers ~300 calls
- Remaining 300 calls × $1.67 = $501
- Total: $500 + $501 = $1,001
The crossover point: Pro beats Enterprise until roughly 450 calls/month. Above that, Enterprise's lower per-call rate wins. If your volume is unpredictable, the free plan's $3.00/call overage rate makes it expensive past 25 calls — 100 calls on Free would cost $0 + (75 × $3.00) = $225, more than Pro.
What charges sit outside the plan price?
The base subscription is not the whole bill. Watch these:
- Live agent add-on. The AI handles calls first. If the AI itself escalates a complex call to the Live Agent Network (500+ North America-based receptionists), there is no fee. But if you choose live agent involvement for verification or scheduling, that is a per-call add-on. Smith.ai does not publish the per-call rate for this in the material we reviewed.
- Free plan overages. Past 25 calls on the free plan, each call costs $3.00. Overages are off by default — you authorize them before charges apply.
- Spam removals capped. You can dispute spam calls that got answered, but removals are capped at 10% of answered calls per billing cycle.
- Credit card at signup. Even the free plan requires a credit card. Smith.ai says there is no charge until you authorize overages, but the card is on file from day one.
Smith.ai does not list compliance certifications such as HIPAA or SOC 2 in the material we reviewed. If your industry requires named certifications, ask before signing up.
Is there a free way to try it?
Yes, two ways.
The free plan is $0/mo forever, not a time-limited trial. It includes 25 live calls per month and every feature: 24/7 AI answering, recording and transcription, lead qualification, AI Scheduling via Calendly, and native integrations with Clio and Zapier. You need a credit card at signup, but Smith.ai states there is no charge until you authorize overages.
Before going live, Quality Studio lets you test the AI on up to 50 simulated scenarios per month. That means you can hear how it handles your call types without burning your 25 live calls.
For a small business fielding a handful of calls a week, the free plan may be enough on its own. At 25 calls a month you are averaging under one call a day.
Which cheaper or simpler options should you compare?
Smith.ai's per-call model suits businesses that want a free start and optional human backup. If you would rather have a flat monthly bill, three alternatives publish their pricing:
- Rosie — from $49/month for 250 minutes (Rosie pricing). Bilingual (English and Spanish) on every call. Direct calendar booking and warm transfers require the $149/month Scale plan. Rosie does not publish an overage rate.
- Goodcall — from $79 a month for 100 unique customers (Goodcall pricing). Bills per unique caller, not per call or minute, so repeat callers cost nothing extra. States SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance. Free demo agent: build and test before paying.
- My AI Front Desk — $99/mo (or $79/mo billed annually) covering phone, chat, SMS, email and WhatsApp in one plan (My AI Front Desk pricing). Includes 200 voice minutes; overage is $0.25/min. States HIPAA compliance.
